Woodbine Racetrack
The Woodbine racetrack is located in Toronto, Ontario. Its origin actually date back to 1881, although the current track only opened in 1956.
Woodbine is the only race track in the continent which is capable of staging both thoroughbred and standardbred horse racing on the same day, although the bulk of standardbred racing in the area is held at Mohawk Raceway in Campbellville.
There are two different tracks currently in use at Woodbine racetrack:
- the 1 ½ mile turf course (regarded as one of the best tracks in North America)
- a synthetic “all-weather” track, the tapeta track, which can host races of up to one mile.
Post 1 through 3 win above average on the Tapeta surface up to 7 furlongs. The outside posts (12 through 14) are at a strong disadvantage in both sprints and route races.
The events are supported by a massive TV audience and a record attendance of over 42 000 at the track itself.
Woodbine racetrack also host Casino Woodbine, offering Live Table Games, Stadium Games, Electronic Table Games, restaurants, lounges and a variety of slots machines that include new and classic themes.
Woodbine Live Racing
Horse Racing at Woodbine takes place from mid-April through to early-December. Weather conditions dictate that racing cannot take place during the first quarter of the year. Races are scheduled each Tuesday/Wednesday with post time at 6.45PM and also Friday through Sunday, with the start at 1.00PM.

Woodbine Main Races
Woodbine hosts a number of prestigious contests throughout the year, with Queens Plate and the Woodbine Mile amongst the most lucrative events on the calendar.
The Queen’s Plate, Canada’s oldest thoroughbred horse race, is part of the Canadian Triple Crown.
The Woodbine Mile, the E.P. Taylor Stakes and especially the Canadian International are three of Woodbine’s huge Grade 1 turf races.
Some races will only allow horses foaled in Ontario to compete, these include the Achievement Stakes and the Vandal Stakes.
