Tampa Bay Downs Racetrack
Tampa Bay Downs first opened its doors in 1926 under the name of Tampa Downs. Nowadays it has become one of the most popular turf courses in North America. Tampa the only Thoroughbred race track on the West Coast of Florida, and is known as one of America’s oldest and most well-maintained racetracks.
It is located in Hillsborough County, on the outskirts of Tampa, and hosts regular race-days for thoroughbred horses in the region. There is also a golf practice facility located at the track as well as The Silks Poker Room, the card room that has become one of the hottest spots in town. Both are open 7 days a week.
The main track at Tampa is a standard dirt oval of one mile round with a seven furlong turf track to the inner which has a quarter-mile chute.

- Composition: Sand and clay composition
- Turf: 7/8 mile in circumference with a 1/4 mile chute

Tampa Bay Downs Live Stream
The racing season at Tampa Bay runs November through June with live racing scheduled on around 90 days of the year. Simulcast is broadcast throughout the track mainly on new flat-screened plasma or LCD televisions on both live racing days and during the track’s off-season.

What are the most important races at Tampa Bay Downs?
The track doesn’t currently stage any Grade I events, but there are a high number of stakes contests taking place throughout the year, as well as a selection of Grade II and Grade III events. The Grade II Tampa Bay Derby is one of a number of races in which competitors can earn points towards the Kentucky Derby. The first four finishers in these races get qualifying point for entry into the Kentucky Derby.
