Saratoga Racetrack
Based in Saratoga Springs, New York, the Saratoga Race Track is the oldest organized sporting venue of any kind in the USA. It has two popular nicknames – The Spa, named for the nearby mineral springs, and the Graveyard of Favorites, named for the historic upsets recorded there in years past.
Saratoga is home to some of the best racing, and betting, in the world. Thoroughbred racing has no finer setting than Saratoga Race Course, named one of the world’s greatest sporting venues by Sports Illustrated. Along with New York-based runners, horses from all over North America, as well as international shippers, will point toward the strong racing fare.
The New York Racing Association operates the other two tracks – Aqueduct and Belmont Park – there are three separate tracks in the main course at Saratoga Race Course:
- The main dirt track (1 1/8 mile circumference). It has a 4 percent banking on the turns and the distance from the final turn to the finish line is 1,144 feet.
- An outer turf track is known as the Mellon Turf Course (1-mile). It has the same banking on the turns and distance from the final turn to the finish line as the main dirt track.
- An inner turf horse racing track (7 furlongs). It has the same banking on the turns and a distance from the final turn to the finish line of 1,164 feet.
Additionally, there is the Oklahoma Track, which is for warming-up and training.
The Saratoga Race Course Guide provides all the information you need, whether you are a first-time track goer looking for the basics, or a life-long veteran looking for what’s new this year.
