Today’s Santa Anita Picks

Santa Anita Park racetrack, situated in Arcadia, California has been staging race meets since 1934. The stylish venue itself was designed by Gordon B. Kaufmann in the Art Deco style of the times. The amazing Seabiscuit was a visitor at the track and won the Santa Anita Handicap on his final career start, just before racing was suspended due to World War II.

Santa Anita Park, “The Great Race Place“, is arguably the most beautiful race track in the world, and continues to be a driving force in the racing industry.

There are plenty of wagering opportunities as Santa Anita Park stages over 120 race days a year, at it’s busiest January through to June with July and August blank as it gets hot on the West Coast!

The course has a one-mile (1,609 m) main dirt track surrounding a 0.9-mile (1,448 m) turf course. There is also a hillside turf course used for shorter turf races. The course could also be used for a 1¾-mile race if the horses continued past the finish line and ran the oval turf course again.

A key feature at Santa Anita is its extra hillside turf track to the north-west of the main track, crossing over the dirt and meeting the main turf track. It is used for races of around 6½ furlongs in distance.
