Penn National Racetrack
Penn National is one of the most known racetracks in Pennsylvania. It has been opened in Grantville in August 1972, and since 2008 is part of the Hollywood Casino complex. The track sits 17 miles east of Harrisburg and within commutable distance to two other major cities; 100 miles from Philadelphia and Baltimore.
Penn National racing takes place either Wednesday through Saturday or Thursday through Saturday every month of the year, around 180 days per year.
The racecourse consists of a one mile (1.6 km) dirt track and a seven-furlong turf course. There is a run of just under 1,000 feet from the final turn to the wire on the home stretch.
Penn National Draw Positions
Sprint dirt races
Middle and outside posts are preferred with the exception of post 11 and 12. Post 4 through 10 are best and most preferred at Penn National.
Route events
The inside and middle draws (post 4 through 8) are equally effective, and posts 9 through 12 are least attractive.
Turf Sprints
Middle posts are best, and in turf routes the inside is the place to be. Posts 9 through 12 are unproductive in both grass sprints and routes.
Penn National Live Racing
You’ll be able to watch live races from Penn National racetrack at TVG and check out simulcast racing as well.
