Louisiana Downs Race Track

Harrah’s Louisiana Downs race track is located near Shreveport in Bossier City, northwest Louisiana, and acts as showcase also for horses from Arkansas and Texas. The race track opened in 1974 with 15,000 fans in attendance for the first day of its inaugural meet. It was purchased by Caesars Entertainment in December, 2002.

The race track isn’t just about horse racing, there is plenty to do and see while visiting Louisiana Downs. The casino houses, for instance, contain over 1,300 slot machines making this another one of Americas ‘racinos’, catering for everyone who feels the need to have a wager or two.

The track is home to the Grade II Super Derby, a race run each September since 1980 at the classic United States stakes distance of 1-1/4 miles (2,000 m). Furthermore, every winter, Louisiana Downs hosts a quarter horse meet, showcasing the fastest breed of horses on the planet.

  • The main track is a one-mile dirt oval with a chute on the home stretch. Distance from last turn to finish is 1,010 feet; width of stretch and backstretch is 80 feet.
  • The Franks Turf Course is seven furlongs and 50 feet; distance from last turn to finish, 940 feet.
