Delta Downs Racetrack
Known as “America’s Favorite Nighttime Track”, Delta Downs is the premier racing circuit in Louisiana. Horseplayers come into Delta Downs from Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Plus, Delta Downs is only 10 minutes away from the Texas border along the I-10 and is in fact only an hour-and-a-half from Houston.
After being impacted by Hurricane Rita in 2005, Delta Downs has gone through large scale improvements and renovations and is now thriving. Since then, Delta Downs has produced several stakes-quality Thoroughbreds. Furthermore, the race track also has a accompanying hotel and casino with over 1,600 slot machines.
The track is a 6 furlong oval and consists of two chutes, one for 5f races and the other for 1m and half a furlong races. The surface is a mixture of sand (from the Sabine river) and clay with a limestone base. The length of the stretch is 660 feet while the width is 8 feet. The track can test the balance of a horse with its 10% incline on the turns. Maximum field size is 10.
Delta Downs Live Racing
Racing takes place generally from November to mid-July with the winter thoroughbred program the highlight at Delta Downs. You’ll be able to watch live races from Delta Downs racetrack at TVG and check out simulcast racing as well.

Delta Downs Main Races
The major races at Delta Downs are the Delta Jackpot Stakes, a race with a $1m purse for two-year-old runners. It is the third-richest race for 2-year-olds behind the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and Juvenile Fillies.
The Delta Princess Stakes is open to two-year-old fillies and has a $500k purse.
