Betting Preview
The Cleveland Browns enter the Wildcard Weekend on the back of last week’s stunning upset loss to the Jets. They are 3-3 against teams with winning records including a win over Pittsburgh last Sunday when the Steelers were resting several key starters including quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and NFL sack leader T.J. Watt.
It was a very levelled contest as the Steelers failed a two-point conversion that would have tied the game late in the 4th quarter. Definitely not a good sign for Cleveland, who will now be facing a rested Steelers team that looks more like the squad that hammered them 38-7 in week 6 at Heinz Field.
The Browns have been crushed by a rash of injuries as well as a COVID-19 outbreak which has ruled out head coach Kevin Stefanski and many players, including Pro Bowl left guard Joel Bitonio, defensive backs Denzel Ward and Ronnie Harrison, wide receiver KhaDarel Hodge.
The Pittsburgh Steelers (12-4) have lost four of their last five outings after being the last undefeated team in 2020, winning their first 11 regular season games. One of those defeats was a 24-22 decision at Cleveland in Week 17.
The spread has the Steelers as a 6-point favorite mainly because the Browns’ team facility was closed until Thursday after several positive COVID tests.
Key Stats & Betting Trends
Pittsburgh led the NFL with 56 sacks, ranked third in total defense (305.8 yards) and tied for third with a plus-nine turnover differential.
Cleveland finished the campaign with a 6-10 against-the-spread record, while the Steelers were one of the best cover teams in 2020 with a 10-6 ATS record.
The Browns saw the Over hit in nine of its 16 games, while Pittsburgh notched eight Overs and one push.
Our Browns vs Steelers Picks & Predictions
The Steelers should be able find offensive success, as the Browns’ defense is nothing to write home abou, we expect them to win the game even if their defense has shown some cracks of late. Pittsburgh to win 37-22.
