Betting strategies are becoming more and more a part of how we bet online. It makes sense when on a losing streak; they can help you break even, and when you’re onto a winner, they can really help you maximize profits.

There are dozens of betting strategies out there, but one of the most popular is the Martingale Betting System.

But what is it? How does it work? We take a look at the system in all you need to know about the Martingale Strategy…

What Is The Martingale Betting System?

The Martingale System is a roulette strategy that has been used online and offline for decades. It’s fast become the most popular strategy in casinos and is a useful way to recover any losses you make.

The system is designed so that you increase your bet after each loss in order to break even when you do win. Once you have won, you then jump back down to your original stake and begin the process once again.

Ultimately, the system doesn’t improve your chance of winning but rather distributes the risk of losing and will help you to break even should you end up on a losing streak.

How To Use The Martingale System

Using the Martingale System is relatively straightforward and involves betting on the very outside bets of a roulette wheel.

This means playing roulette online, you’d place bets on red or black, odds or evens or 1-18 and 19-36. The odds within these wagers are 2.0, and after every loss, you will double your stake money.

This means that when you do win, you will recover all the losses from your previous bets.
For Example:

If you were to start with a bet of $1, and let’s say you were to place it on black.

If you were to win the bet, the following bet would once again be $1. Should you lose the bet, you would then double your wager to $2. If you were to lose again that wager would then double to $4, reverting to $1 if you won’t and doubling once more on a loss. The process would then continue depending on whether you won or lost the bet.

By doubling after every loss, you’re covering all the chips lost with your next bet allowing you to break even when you do win.

The Dangers Of The Martingale System

There are things to note about the Martingale Betting System due to the nature of how the system operates.

Ultimately the system can go on infinitely, so if you end up on a large losing streak, you could end up having to bet significant sums just to break even.

Additionally, if you then run to the end of your bankroll without recouping your losses, you have lost a serious amount of cash for no return.

One further thing to note is that this system doesn’t account for the house edge, that being the 0 on a European wheel, as well as the 00 on an American Roulette table. This places the odds slightly off a 50/50 chance of winning and can cause problems within your strategy.

When To Use The Martingale Betting System

The Martingale Strategy is a really useful short term betting strategy, as it’s unlikely the sequence would ever go further than 10 losses in a row on an outside bet.

It’s always best to begin with a small stake and work your way up as the figure you have to bet does grow rapidly. It’s not a strategy that will win you large amounts of profit, but rather a tactic to ensure that eventually, you won’t come out of the casino having lost money.
