In August, the state Racing and Gaming Commission gave the green light to Iowa’s 19 casinos to offer retail, desktop, and mobile wagering. To place a bet, customers should at least 21 years or over and located within the state’s borders.

Based on the total amount of money wagered by customers, it is thought that a mature sports wagering market would be valued at around $160m. Whereas, the tax rate on revenue is set at 7.5 percent.

As a result, the brick-and-mortar casino, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sioux City, started offering sports wagering in September. The property features a gaming destination that offers a 45,000 square-foot casino with more than 850 slot machines and 26 table games, along with an AAA Four Diamond Hard Rock Hotel, six restaurants and bars, and two live entertainment venues.

In November, the retail sportsbook at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sioux City generated revenue of $171,017.87, from over-the-counter stakes of $1.7m. Recently, they launched a mobile sportsbook in Iowa, powered by GiG.
